‘Hard as Steel’ was an advertisement campaign I shot in New York City over a week (plus a few days of pre-production) for Steel Supplements. Originally, I was just supposed to be Director of Photography, but I ended up co-writing, co-producing, and co-directing as well.
I flew out with just my camera and lenses, renting the remaining items from the local Adorama company in NYC. We ended up shooting in various locations (a gym, park, apartment, deli store, high-end loft, basement, exercise bike room, weight room, bathroom, etc). Some locations had to be completely transformed into the needed style, which took a lot of work for myself and my 1 person camera dept crew member, Samuel (who was awesome).
There were many issues onset and in post-production but I met some great crew members – Samuel Angus Campbell, Aya Tariq, Leslie Ramos, and Eva Joti. Along with the star of the spot – Jason Schaeffer, who was a super nice guy and willing to do everything we asked for with a smile. I even got to meet local icon Peter Kokis, and make fun of Dan Bilzerian….so it wasn’t all that bad.
