In this episode of Cinema Relics Investigates, Dan Lanigan takes a deep dive into Fan-O-Rama — his wildly ambitious live-action Futurama fan film that set out to do the impossible: bring the animated world of Futurama to life using practical effects, full-scale builds, and animatronics.
As the project grew, so did the scope. Sets expanded. Effects multiplied. And at the center of it all stood the undeniable crown jewel of the production: a life-size animatronic Bender puppet, built to exist in the real world.

This was part of several episodes shot over a few days at the studio space used for this series. I was asked to come in and redesign some of the lighting and camera setups for the show, as well as shoot a few episodes. This was a multi-camera setup, with only 2 operators (so we had to divide time as needed throughout the day). Overall, lots of great stories and knowledge gained going over various props and screen-used outfits.

Happy to say that I pitched the ‘Only Cans’ joke during shooting, and loved that they included it along with the web mockup. Kudos.
