This is what you call a “make the best out of a situation” type of a film.
First off, i booked a hotel room for a model video shoot with a girl who has been known to cancel at the last minute on my but i thought to give her another chance. This was a mistake, after discussing the plan throughout the week and up till me spending a few hundred dollars on a nice hotel room- she suddenly “couldn’t make it” hours before the shoot day. I couldn’t cancel the room as it was under 24 hrs from the booking, so i was left with the “Do i eat the money for no reason, do i sleep there for no reason, or do i try to use the room for something else?”. I went with the 3rd and called up Robert Felker to see if he wanted to be a actor in something involving a sweet room and zero current ideas other than that.
We spent the night/morning with slight brainstorms on ideas and ultimately pieced together the concept of cool shots rather than a complete storyline based on the room itself. I brought everything i could in terms of lightweight lights and gear, we went from there. The result was one of my first attempts to use my new RED camera, ie- i screwed up alot of the lighting and exposure for this, but i think the room and the colors made up for something interesting.
As we never really came up with a complete storyline it kinda sat on the shelf for over a year, days after shooting my heart died and life completely fell apart /it has been an uphill fight to get new work much less archive work out since, but I’ve pieced together the footage into a sudo storyline for Wakeup, at least the release of something other than a collection of shots.
